Even if the distance per gallon is comparable to a that of a Prius, flying usually means covering a lot of distance, which means a lot of fuel. As human population grows, we might fly more, from the extreme of a fewer people flying a lot, to many people with the means to fly sometimes.
I’m not rooting for zero flights, just a population-independent limit on fuel burned to move us and our stuff around, in the interest of a healthier ecosystem.
At an individual-responsibility level, consider flying less.
At a collective/government level, consider regulation to help people make such sacrifices, and have it be transparently fair enough to limit exploitation.
If this doesn’t seem reasonable, what would you do instead, and why?
