If this interests you, I recommend Norman Ohler’s book Buzzed: Drugs in the Third Reich[0]. One example from memory: while the French soldiers had as their ration of drugs some chocolate and 2/3 bottle of wine per day, some German soldiers during their push across France (relevant to the events in the movie Dunkirk) were awake for 17 days, driving over 150 km/day, thanks to prescribed methamphetamines. French troops in many checkpoints along the way were caught off guard due to the inhuman speed at which this force moved.
This was an engaging look at WWII through the lens of drugs, and reminiscent of John Krakauer’s journalism.
