Glad to see Google committing to some level of support, but 5 years seems extremely short for something I'm building into my home. I would hope I could count on my thermostat to continue operating for more than 5 years after I purchase it.

Cloud-connected smart appliances are banned in my home for that reason. All they do is become landfill the second that they fall off the tail end of the upgrade cycle.
