Someone is generating hundreds AI videos of Hacker News

I found this YouTube channel using AI to generate hundreds of YouTube videos... and it's using HackerNews submissions as the source.

check https://youtube(.)com/c/TonyTechnology

the question is - why? it's a low quality, low effort AI, essentially Text-to-Speech but with the added lip synced generated face. it looks bad, too bad to make sense. I thought it might be some spam bot to generate views, subs... and I found this intriguing.

here's why: first it seemed like a good case study to research YouTube's algorithm. while many videos got 3-4 views or none at all, others got 300 or more.

but the more I looked into it, the more I started recognizing articles I've seen before... here on HN.

it's running for 2 months now with the same low quality, that together with the fact it's not too successful makes me wonder why put the effort in the first place?

is this spam? maybe it's an academic research? and maybe the person who created it is reading this and can share some info.

Seems like someone is training some AI, and dumping videos in the process. It may be the way to track progress (like, as he develops his app, videos should get better), maybe to attract investors?
