This time, a brand new plaid. The doors have been locked, making it an almost death trap. The driver managed to get out by using force and escaped death by seconds.

Sure, other cars have burned, other cars had door locks stuck, but this one has the combination new+burned+locked.

Why are such lemons permitted for sale without an intervention.

No statement from Tesla on the matter yet, Musk is busy pushing doge coin and they need to make up an excuse I suppose.

What is the common reason for this. Does the battery go up in flames if it is short circuited? There probably is a mechanism to prevent that. So was it internal battery damage?

Firemen probably need additional training and equipment to handle fires like this. To be fair, petrol cars can burn just as good if they get damaged.

Would like a software update for the door locks though. Or even better, a mechanical switch.

I have read that all Tesla's come with a mechanical switch, but I am not sure. It's true the same thing including central door lock can happen on non electric vehicles in case of a short circuit. The reason for the fires seems not known or truly established, else Tesla would fix the issue.
