What's the best way to promote your startup? In some months I will be launching a product over which I intend to open a startup. What's the cheapest and best way to promote it?

product hunt, post a "Show HN" here, tweet about it with relevant hash tags, etc.

Make a landing page. Collect e-mails for people who are interested in the value proposition. Contact them when it's ready.

not affiliated but you might want to check out levelsio's book makebook. it has good coverage of most basic stuff, useful for engineers like me who aren't that adept in sales and marketing.
