Ask HN: Why is there not a good platform for browsing all events near me?

Title says it all. How come there isn't a dead simple way to browse all events and cool stuff going on in my city. I feel like I've seen a million startups try and tackle this and yet as a user, if I want this now, what choice do I have?

Participants must be convinced to transmit event particulars. I find local businesses don't find it important to publish accurate business hours, much less information that changes more than once in two years. That includes the city government.

There's a site for my metropolitan area that tries to aggregate event listings. As far as I can tell, it only scrapes Facebook. That's enough for some people, even when the business page is hidden behind a FB login.

Ideally all we would need would be a feed reader. Planners and organizers don't see the value proposition in easy-flowing information.

In the U.S. there is Patch [1] It does not have every community / city but it might have something close to you.
