Surprised the article doesn’t mention the existence of Pakistan Standard Time (GMT + 5), arguably the heir to Bombay Time.

This is an interesting bit of history. There was a 99pi episode about time zones recently that mentions 'Xinjiang Time', which was (is?) used as a subtle act of defiance in the north west of china [0]. I hadn't realized that something that for me is so mundane could be so controversial

Hmm, Pakistan used DST for a few years but that is missing from their map
Hopefully this inspires people to get rid of daylight savings time, which is rather an archaic concept in the current day and age.
Why? Where I live, even with DST, in the summers the sun still comes up at about 5am. Without DST, it would come up at 4am. that is surely wasted daylight for >95% of the population
Permanent summer time would make sense in most places.
