Ask HN: Leaving CA

I am considering leaving CA and looking at relocating to a different state. While I like/align with the liberal values, the execution by government here is horrible. For example, a simple bathroom remodel permit is stuck in city paperwork hell. I mean I believe in climate change and will remodel in an energy efficient manner. But, I dont need a city employee to sit on my paperwork for 1 month. I see this everywhere in CA (woke & incompetent).

At the same time, I cannot align with gun nuts, anti-abortion/gay rights.

Is America the land of extremes or there is some state that accepts liberal views, but doesn't have the problem of big government?

Is big government the only path to execute on liberal values.
