Ask HN: What happened to the zedstore and zheap projects?

I have been really excited to see some new implementations of storage engines in Postgres ever since the new pluggable storage api was introduced. There has been quite a bit of excitement around these two projects in particular, and I was looking forward to being able to use them myself. However, I ran across this interview with a Postgres contributor, which claims that development has virtually stopped.

Is anybody here involved in these projects? Can you comment on their progress? Have the projects been abandoned?
