Because people spent the year at home watching propaganda about how bad it is to go near other people, and germaphobes and hypochondriacs were glorified to the point that no act of crazy germ avoidance was too much. Honestly I think it's only a small percentage of people actually affected by this, that media is racing to pander to and act as it they're normal. Most regular people are happy to get back to seeing their friends and having a normal work life, and were only avoiding it because of what was imposed on them. But that would be a boring article.
