Makes more sense to issue a stay at home order if you don't have the vaccine. I can think of many better policies than this, which will likely just undermine the vaccine and not provide significant protection.

Or just let kids take it?

The majority of those without the vaccine at this point aren't going to follow a stay at home order that's specific to them.

Mask mandates are easier to get compliance for, easier in general, and somewhat effective at slowing spread.

Also, like other non-pharmaceutical interventions, they’re currently unregulated.
> Mask mandates are easier to get compliance for

Maybe, but I, as a vaccinated person, I'm going to be salty about a mask mandate if it's the unvaccinated who are the source of the problem, and am liable to disregard it if there isn't effective enforcement.

First world problem alert: been planning a two week vacation trip to LA in August, since my other vacation plans felt more unwise. Now this… I live in a place without a mask mandate and very low infection levels. Not quite sure what to do with my accruing vacation time… I asked my team today if anyone had booked any international travel for the rest of the year, and only one person had, but he’s not sure he’ll go through with it.
International travel right now is full of hidden gotchas right now. Thailand has just started to open to international vaccinated tourists.

But if someone on the plane tests positive for COVID-19, that means you go right into quarantine for the next two weeks, even if you yourself are not testing positive.

I did the 2 week quarantine in Thailand (I went in knowing I had to quarantine). It wasn't bad but I was in a 5 star hotel with amazing food. Couldn't even leave the room which was a little ridiculous though.
Yeah, I used to live in Europe, so I wanted to go back there, but I don't see myself testing those waters. It also doesn't feel right heading to places where the locals are living in a different health zone than the inbound travelers. A few of the places I had on my list have moved to almost-lockdown status.
Devil’s advocate: Why not just go visit LA if you’re vaccinated? If you just wear a mask indoors and follow local health guidelines, I don’t see why you can’t go and have a great time.

Most of LA’s attractions are outdoors too, and the chance of catching COVID or its variant outdoors is still low. My only concern would be the airport and planes if you’re flying.

I can and might. But, like everyone everywhere dealing with the pandemic, I was getting hopes high for a trip in a place where masks mandates had abated, and LA was one of those places. The list of places to go that don't require flying... well, honestly, I just want to get out of the SF/Tahoe area and be mask free. I get that it's mostly a matter of disappointment that I have to deal with here. I'm not a mask resister, but I am not wearing them day to day.. and if I can, I'd rather vacation without it.
I live in LA, I would go. LA county is 4,000 sq miles. We have areas that are very anti-vax and anti-mask, they are not necessarily where you will be as a tourist.
FL and TX have been open. We had great times visiting both.

Oh, and we cancelled HI three times in the past year. If States are going to harass me, I will keep visiting places that want my tourist spend.

Pay no attention to the man behind the never ending quarantine curtain!
