Yupp, been through this pain, though gnupg-pkcs11 worked pretty well for me.

This was FINALLY undone in 2.2.28!

It was one of the most exciting change log entries I've come across in ages.

Now able to open Firefox AND an entry in my password store simultaneously.

Which card do you use? Is there any NFC/RFID available?
