Pictured in the article is a 1950 Commander Starlight Coupe... That was the car I learned to drive in, back in 1984 or so, tearing around the back field in an ex-police car with a "3 on the tree" manual transmission and far more mass than brakes.

When i got that car it had sat in a barn for years without maintenance; I was an ignorant pre-teen barely competent to change the spark plug in a motorcycle; its amazing I got the thing to run and move. I think the biggest challenge was someone had to explain the distributor cap to me and help get the timing adjusted.

I don't think any 30 year old cars today would be anywhere near as simple to re-vivify. Even the Yugo was more complicated.
