No, there should not be backdoors in encryption.

There is ample evidence of abuse by law enforcement and I think such mechanisms would be abused. No civil rights movement would have a chance because of asymetric access to information.

The access would be completely disproportionate like it is argued here.

Frankly, I think most governments have other problems with law enforcement right now and they certainly do not deserve the trust to give them access to citizen communication.

Sure, secure channels are abused by criminals. That cases of abuse justify encroachment on encryption is as wrong as it is for speech in any free democracy.

Additionally government have repeatedly violated laws concerning confidential communication, so giving them a backdoor should be off the table.
