It's easy to destroy something. But very hard to replicate its order and structure quickly, status quo ante.
This is why conservatives exist: they know this so their position is: "Think this plan through 3-20 more times first to make absolutely sure you know what you are getting into".
For some of us who'd spent time in the Middle East, we knew the invasion of Iraq was 1) based on bogus justification, and, 2) would end very badly. What actually happened was well within #2's range. And 100% predictable!
Liberal is what most Dems are considered. Conservative is what most if not all Republicans are considered. If you and the grandparent are trying to define conservative in the US as like 2% of the population, that makes no sense and isn’t how words are used or how the world works. I don’t necessarily agree with these assignments, but it is how things are seen as without butchering the truth too much.
If you’re saying most Republicans are neo-conservatives, I guess that’s fair to say. However then that also can mean the war hawks on the Dem side who voted for the Iraq war can largely be seen as neoliberals and centrists [slightly to the left], which doesn’t negate the parent’s description. The conservatives/Republicans were still the main people pushing it. Doesn’t mean NYTimes being all in on it isn’t true either.
