Why do I always see these kind of post about android wars on smart phone. Its like android fans are trying to imply android is better than apple while apple fans don't really care.
News Alert: The plastic bag industry has won the bag wars against Louis Vuitton! For every LV Neverfull Consumers use 1,2 trillion plastic bags.
This is absurd. I've worked as an app developer in Sweden for 7 years. In all apps/products I've worked on we always had double the users on iOS than on Android. Yet the map shows Sweden being an Android country… how can this be?
Likewise, I really doubt that all the African countries marked as iPhone really are "iPhone territory".

The key sentence is this article is:

> Published by Electronics Hub, [these maps] are based on a qualitative analysis of almost 350,000 tweets worldwide that presented positive, neutral, and negative attitudes toward Android and/or Apple."

It's a jump in logic to conclude general consumer preferences as the article does:

> Now the results are in: worldwide, consumers clearly prefer one side — and it's not Steve Jobs'.

I don't think Twitter users are good representatives of general consumer preferences, especially in countries where Twitter is not widely popular. And that's just for starters.

ios users are more likely to pay/use apps?
Sampling bias, I'd guess. While unlikely, it could be possible that Android users just happened not to use the apps that you were developing.
Lol. A large amount of these Android devices are just $50 bare minimum specs phones being sold in third world countries, where the only thing they are used for is Whatsapp messaging.

Basically I would not even count this as a smartphone usage. More like the 2020s version of traditional dumbphones.

If you develop Android software you will get flat zero installs from the billions of this type of users.

You can buy a fairly usable Android smartphone from Samsung or Xiaomi for less than $200. It’s not tough to see that if go and buy a smartphone in a poorer country or you’re not willing to spend the cash which option will win out.

That being said the budget phone experience is worlds apart nowadays from what even buying the first Samsung Galaxy phone was way back. Because that wasn’t even a budget phone and it was kinda bad. It’s much nicer nowadays so it’s fascinating to see the low end get so much nicer in about 10 years.

With respect, $200 might be much more than an entire years worth of income for many people in those countries.

Just because it’s the cost of dinner at a nice restaurant for you doesn’t mean that it’s a whole crap ton of money for someone else.

You could say it's winning (I'd disagree, but also I couldn't care less), but if Android has already won iOS wouldn't be doing so well (which isn't the case).

I've been thinking about getting a Linux "app" phone for certain apps, but it sure as hell won't be Android and won't have any Google s/w.

I think many Android users feel the same. Everyone who could have an Android phone already has one (or two) - there's no way to grow from here. Peak Android.
