I disagree. To me they are flavorless and overly sweet with no satisfying butteryness etc

Oreo is actually an imitation (a successful one) . The original product was called Hydrox [1].

None of you can remember the original Oreo, before the introduction of vegetable shortening. It was once much better than today.
