I'd be happy to see 1Password IPO and would even like to invest--but hopefully this isn't forging a pathway to a mandatory acquisition. There's no company wealthy enough out there with the security and privacy chops to continue on 1Password's mission.

But if neither of those things happen, as a developer, seeing an emphasis on more infrastructure security products is super exciting.

There are plenty of companies that could acquire 1Password. Many of the FANG companies could do it as well as many of the big security focused giants.

The big differentiator for 1Password was not that they invented password management but that they made it easy for the average consumer to use it and then pivoted into supporting businesses. There are plenty of companies that would love to acquire this user base.

I think SaaS companies would be a more likely buyer, like Salesforce

I think another thing they've built is a brand and trust around security. If half of those companies that make up FAANG bought them I would switch the next day.
Seems like Dropbox, Box.com, or similar personal/business hybrid SaaS offering would be a good fit. Not sure post $100m raise though…
$2b for a password manager, seriously?
Overfunding companies that do 1 thing well is the startup equivalent of the Peter's principle. Expand the company until it sucks at everything.
