The title is misleading. “ Some Apple staff have quit…” this is more in line with the content claim “Ten employees say they're quitting or know someone who is because of Apple's position.”
Which ten, though? Apple goes to extreme lengths to hire the very best of the best. One key technical contributor leaving can strain or stop development of new products or releases.
Millennials are without a doubt, the laziest and most incompetent generation we've had in a long time.
They spend all their energy chasing experiences instead of saving for the future. Also they tend to choose to work for corporations, choosing easy, cushy jobs instead of taking a small risk and starting their own businesses and later get acquired by corporations. There are so many opportunities out there with startups constantly raising millions of dollars and so many unicorns. How lazy can you get? The opportunities are everywhere! They're being served on a golden platter. Back in my days, I could only dream of the kinds of opportunities which young people have today in terms of education and ability to raise funding. Money is pouring down, they just have to bend down to pick it up! Next thing, investors will be reaching out to them, with 0 track record and shoving free money in their pockets! It's just ridiculous!
This stance against remote working is just one more example of millennial's laziness and spoiled attitude. They want to stay home and watch cat videos on YouTube and hang out in cafes sipping lattes all day - That's not how you get work done!
Now some of them want socialism? Give me a break! It has never been easier to earn money. Just look at house prices and stock prices shooting up, rich people are everywhere... Even idiots who invest in Dogecoin are getting rich! It's infuriating how lazy, incompetent, entitled and whining most of they are. If they spent less time complaining about everything and more time working, they would all be millionaires already!
Opportunities are not only measured in money and fame. Some people simply want a job to finance their private life, and no, that's not a millennial thing.
Others, simply don't want to spend three to six hours commuting every day, or work in an open office environment. There's probably hundreds of other reasons for working from home as well.
Spending a quarter of your life commuting, a third of your working hours being constantly interrupted by others in the office, up to a week per year sick because you catch some bug from various co-workers who don't dare call in sick for the fear of the repercussions, well, that's not how you get the job done either.
In my day, nobody would sweat this trivial stuff. You need to travel for work, big deal! It's always been this way! Nowadays there are so many good easy jobs in the city, so many forms of public transport... It's never been easier.
In my day, people would go to work every day no matter how sick they were. Nobody bat an eyelash over this. You just soldier on and get the job done! The work isn't going to do itself! Somebody has to get the food out of the ground, package it, keep the supply chains running smoothly, etc...
Last time I checked, the job market is free and people are allowed to quit jobs that don't suit them. Employees are also allowed to organize themselves and act in unison.
Back in my day, if a job didn't suit our preferences, we quit and got new jobs that suited us better. If the old employers didn't like it, they'd have to come up with better offers. Why would you expect the aforementioned ex-Apple employees to do it differently?
Replying to your comment as I can no longer reply to the dead GP comment.
Can someone explain to me why this would have been flagged to death? (As opposed to just being heavily downvoted)
I downvoted both of this user's comments as they were obviously utter nonsense, but I didn't really see anything in there that should be cause for the comment to be flagged to death and hidden altogether?
If a comment gets enough downvotes, is it automatically flagged? Or can it only be flagged to death via the actual Flag button?
I kind of think we should be able to debate alternative points of view, even if they (in my view) might be very wrong. But in this case we've just stopped this conversation dead by virtue of the GP's comments being hidden completely.
For what its worth I've just worked out how to "vouch" for a dead post so I've done that for both comments and it seems to have brought them back (although heavily greyed-out as is appropriate)
I still firmly disagree with the content but just think we can't debate these things if we simple delete opposing views...
> They spend all their energy chasing experiences instead of saving for the future.
This is a horrible meme, and evades logic. I’m incredibly happy that millennials and onwards understand the value of the present, more then the promise of some magical future.
> They spend all their energy chasing experiences [...] choosing easy, cushy jobs instead of taking a small risk and starting their own businesses
It's hard to assume that post is not irony but apparently it's not. Half of the points are so obviously wrong that I won't even attempt to invalidate them. (The other half seem to go ad hominem) Life is surely easier than in the past but that's a good thing. Society profits when core problems are solved - I wish that was the case anyway.
On the other hand there are no risk free ways to earn money, especially not if you don't have any money on your account. Anything else would be statistically and economically out-of-bounds.
Some staff might prefer to work in an isolated environment to have more productivity rather than dealing with traffic jams daily. Staff might observe that it is better to work at home, especially if the product's performance is similar or better than the traditional working space.

Some Apple staff have quit because of the company's stance against remote working, a report says

Curious what others think...
