Ask HN: What's Wrong with the Gmail Spam Filter?

In the past month or so, I have been receiving an increasing amount of spam that reaches my Gmail inbox. See example here (https://imgur.com/4efNttg). They are so blatant that I can't understand why Gmails' spam filter doesn't catch them.

Any one else get this problem? Are spammers getting better or is Gmail spam filter getting worse?

I've experienced this as well. I figured Google detuned their algorithms to prep us for a paid feature, as an enticement to upgrade to paid accounts, or Google is giving less effort to blocking spam in general.

I noticed the same thing these last few days ... I thought about the same answer as well and it's pathetic to monetize things by taking down quality first ... they're gonna bleed users.
