Poll: Do You “Fire and Forget” on HN?

With reasonable regularity I see a submission to HN that has some sort of minor issue ... a missing word here, an incorrect link there ... and I reply to let the submitter know.

It's possible (with some exceptions) to edit your submission within the first 2 hours, and yet so few people do, leading me to believe that they are operating a "fire and forget" policy.

Submit, then ignore (for a while).

So, when you submit something, when do you check for comments?

The (very) few times I've submitted something, it was to share something I was enthusiastic about.

Following submission I will check the submission once myself and correct obvious mistakes. But other than that: why bother? The submission is now sufficiently intelligible, and the goal was not a perfect submission but to share something I came across. That part had been achieved by submitting.

Sure, I'll check back eventually to see if an interesting discussion erupts. But there's no particular hey with that. Either the submission takes off, or it peters out with nary a comment. Either is fine.

If it takes off there's usually some sort of discussion, and I find it interesting and/or useful to engage with those who have commented. The vibe I'm getting is that people aren't really here for the community.

I think that's a change from when I first "joined".
