Ask HN: What's Improving Behind the Radars

It's a cliche that news is biased toward "bad news", and that you need to look at the bigger pictures to see improvements. ("Factfullness" is written on this premise.)

However, those days, it's hard to find of a topic that might be improving (given the pandemic, its side-effect on economy and geopolitics, and the ever-looming threat of climate change...)

I mean, I'm pretty sure that the usual "silver linings" (poverty in china, girl education, democratisation) are not getting better in 2021. Probably will only be a blimp in the long run, but still, at the moment, not a way to boost morale.

I know there is a whole industry of "good news" side, but they usually concentrate on "heartwarming stories" of child helping puppies, veterans coming home - this is not really what I'm asking for.

What would be the slow-moving, unspectacular, long-term good,covid-indepedant trend that everyone glued to the news site would be missing those days ?
