Why is this remotely surprising? Google already showed in its digital retinopathy project they could determine the gender of a patient from an image of the eye. Clearly there are a lot of correlates of ethnicity (or genetic history, but likely not race, which is a proxy measure for ethnicity that also includes social effects) in the pixels of any image of the body.
