"I know it’s been a long day and that many of you probably haven’t slept in 24 hours. We know that the days to come will be filled with the screeching voices of the minority."
It seems kind of tone deaf to not acknowledge that people have real concerns about the unintended consequences of enabling this.
To be fair to Apple, it is not an Apple employee or VP that is calling people concerned a "screeching minority" but NCMEC's executive director of strategic partnerships, Marita Rodriguez.
The whole thing though is a load of crap. There's nothing privacy preserving about installing spyware on people's phones. It doesn't matter that you tell me it's only run if you sync your photos to iCloud. It shouldn't be there, period.
Oh, by 'telegraphing their intention' I meant their future intentions towards their phones -- although the executive director at the NCMEC was also clearly phoning it in.

Our voices will be louder.”
Excellent job addressing the concerns.
And I'm glad to know that anyone who is concerned is a 'screeching minority'.
