I don’t quite understand why this is big news. Is it really a surprise that having a very large amount of money enables you to do things other people can’t do?
I think it’s interesting that they’re all going to New Zealand, recently found to be one of the best places to live during the impending collapse of human civilization.
Why was he in Fiji anyway? What was the health emergency? I hope they are OK.
Most likely it's all a coincidence, and once he was in NZ anyway, he completed the application.
But if it wasn't just a coincidence, why the big hurry?
* edit: He was in Fiji to 'ride out' the covid-19 pandemic. He applied for NZ residency 3 months ago. Discussions about the medivac have been ongoing 'for months'. So it appears this was not just some last-minute emergency, that just so happened to be a convenient opportunity to complete citizenship. Perhaps Fiji was a strategically planned choice too, given NZ was very closed at the time? NZ should make vaccination a requirement for citizenship, if not for entry.
