This was the route plot.ly initially took, and eventually pivoted to an open plotting library and a dashboard product. Whereas I once wouldn't go near it, it's now an awesome open library.
Here's to hoping that Flourish learns the lesson plot.ly did!
Why should I pay for something I can do with open source libraries? (Maybe there is a reason, but this advertorial hasn't managed to convince me, and the author hasn't even provided an example. I'm not sure why it's being upvoted.)
You're not the target customer. That would be people who have datasets but don't want or know how to write code. Editorial people have little to no interest in typesetting, they just want something they can import to and embed easily.
You're not the target market. We offer Flourish as an option to clients who want a highly customised bespoke dashboard on a reasonable budget, and that can be put together quickly without actual software development. It's not a great solution for situations with a lot of users as their costs scale up pretty fast.
Hacker News isn't just "for hackers" and hasn't been for a very long time. I think you're very aware of that fact.
Obviously it wasn't me that posted the article. GP asked "Why should I...?" In some sense I was agreeing with them: they're not the intended user. I pointed out why we offer it to some clients (and a big factor that I didn't mention is so this kind of bespoke work doesn't become a timesink and a distraction for our engineering teams, who are building more strategic comments and services).
So maybe save your cheap trolling comments for reddit where they'll be more appreciated.

...so why did you post your ad on a website called "Hacker News"?

I'm happy to have contributed positively to society by costing you a few views.
Take a shot every time the article mentions "Flourish".
The poster's HN account is all of 7 hours old. Looks to me like they signed up to HN just to post ads.
