As an American, I am enraged by India’s interest in our vaccine mandates.
India should focus on this one task:

Get those vaccines rolled out to the public.

The Federal government does not have the authority in the Constitution to mandate masks, much less vaccines. That's why Biden did not try impose a general mask mandate, although he campaigned on one. A Federal mask mandate with teeth ultimately means armed men injecting people against their will. Some fraction of the unvaccinated are armed and would shoot at the government agents. I wish more Americans were vaccinated, but not at that cost.

This is just bad journalism. Instead of the story of Indian struggle and about the current state of affairs, vaccine issues, etc. , they’re making them a pawn to further the newspaper’s agenda. Of course, the Indian man they chose is Muslim (minority in India). The story isn’t about them, the story is about Anti-vaxxers in the US with a small jab at rising right-wing Hinduism in India. They could have written separate articles which I’d gladly read. This is the journalism equivalent of “There are hungry kids in Africa so you should lessen your food consumption and behave, waste less”. WaPo is better than this.
Remember how conquered peoples (kuffar and dhimmīs) were converted to Islam.

There is only one way to gain voluntary compliance: continuous social plus civil forces.

Until most people shun and prevent participation in almost everything the unvaccinated and unmasked do, they won't get the message.

Education or wishing won't remedy opt-in preventative measures whose noncompliance leads to a Tragedy of the Commons.
