Covid being accidentally leaked from Wuhan lab (by honest mistake) is a totally viable theory.
Since Trump said it first, Dems immediately deemed it as a racist theory, so there was not much attention for this theory because people were scared of being labeled a racist.
This happened with every policy that disadvantaged China. Trump would be labeled racist for coming up with such policy.
Not sure who to blame to be honest.
At least Biden can do this without being called racist, so we can have a more balanced policy to counter China influence with a discussion that doesn't involve being called racist.
I think we can agree that the Democrats are in bed with China and the Republicans are in bed with Russia. Though there will always be nuanced negotiations, broadly categorizing each party’s allegiance is a useful oversimplification.
The issue is that Trump said it without providing any evidence at all. Of course there was going to be pushback when the only evidence he provides is his usual “Some people are saying…”.
However, it makes nobody wants to pursue this theory because everyone associates it with trump, and anyone who pursues it will also be labeled as racist.
A theory by definition will almost always have little evidence. It needs investment to discover more evidence.

The US (Fort Detrick), Japan, UK, and Germany all rank higher on the list of potential suspects than China.
