Thank god, eh. Because otherwise he might have been stuck working at reed college, picking up all the freshers, reading Rumi, couchsurfing and making (yet more, then maybe denying) babies...instead of going further into computing at Atari. Maybe Woz would be doing retrocomputing in some obscure niche now and have his own website/blog with a small but devoted legion of fans, after retiring early from Microsoft as Head of Surface Technology.
But on the "Maps not Chaps" theory of historical inevitability (Morris), someone else would have played Jobs' role, and our society would have "got the technology, companies, and ideas" that we needed at the time, even if Steve hadn't been in it. Oh well, I agree that's a viable theory for some things, but I don't think it would work in this case. At least I don't like to think it would have worked
For all its faults, real or perceived, I'm glad the world has Apple. I don't want to imagine a world without it :'(
