People want better information, that is why they go look for these facebook groups
Obviously they end up spreading misinformation, as they don't have time to accurately review things. But they also spread a lot of interesting information, and ask questions, the organised media does not dare
I agree. I do think the fundamental design of Facebook makes it unlikely to ever have positive, fact-based discussions at scale. FB is built to optimize engagement and nothing beats outrage for engagement so any group over a certain size will trend more towards the extreme.
