Note: This is not "the meaning OF life", or directly related to happiness, or even "purpose. Also not a step-by-step recipe. It is an apparently well regarded view though, put forth by the philosopher Susan Wolf.
The TL;DR:
1) Seek endeavors that are gripping & engaging. "Seek your passion" is probably to trite & oversimplified. You may be fulfilled by things you're not passionate about, and fulfilling activities aren't always enjoyable: taking care of sick loved ones for example.
2) Contribute to something bigger than yourself. This may be independent from #1. Pursuing only your own desires may produce a more shallow sense of meaning.
3) #1 & #2 synergize together
I'm not sure how I feel about these as a complete framework on the topic, but it does seem like an interesting jumping off point to begin exploring the issue.
