I don't have any doubts about the competence of US military leaders. I think what lost the war was the political restraints that the military leaders had to work under. Winning would have required a much more aggressive strategy, but they never had the authorization to do that because the politicians were afraid of the anti-war backlash.

That's just my 2 cents.
