Ask HN: Is Cissp Worth It?

1 points by system2 ↗ HN
Hello everyone,

I am in IT industry and successfully operating my small IT business. I am not interested in finding a full-time job anywhere but I still want to have up-to-date credentials for business meetings.

Is CISSP worth it? It costs $750 to take the test and in case of fail there is no discount. Also after passing there is $150 yearly membership fee. Study materials seem very long (500+ page books). If not CISSP, for security or advanced IT would you recommend anything else excluding AWS ones?

Thanks!

I was a CISSP for 20* years. CPEs are a hassle. Annual fees are a hassle. I missed getting my CPEs during COVID so now their taking my certification away. I’m probably not willing to jump thru hoops to get it back. It was great in my early days. I’d suggest the GIAC line of certifications now.
Thanks for your input. Are GIACs as recognized as CISSP? There are so many job postings for CISSP, I wonder if high quality employers care more about specific ones rather than mainstream ones.
