Bias: I am vaccinated, and I don't have a job that would require the pass.
I am not a social person and I avoid crowds, so didn't have yet many occasions to go to places where the pass is required: only movie theater, restaurant, hospital. Few people anyway, so no queue to enter.
So far the pass check does not involve storage of the personal data by the host for contact tracing, so I consider it OK for privacy.
The only concern I have are:
- we get used to show a pass
- many people have installed the official app on their phone to show their QR code. This is an entrypoint for the government in many phones of french citizens (32 M install reported by the app itself) while the app was originally for tracking contacts via Bluetooth. One single app that has access to both tracking people via Bluetooth and that has the name of the owner (form the vaccination certificate): nothing could go wrong!
I speak as an outside observer here in the U. S., but my understanding is that the whole Australian vaccine deal was handled poorly by the government. This has been explained to me that the isolation of an island continent bought Australia some time, which the government took to mean "sit on our thumbs until forced to do otherwise".
The point that I'm driving the long way around to is that it's a bit cheeky to go from a 14% vaccination rate, due to government cockups, to "get vaccinated or get used to subsistence farming".
Someone help me understand how this is not Fascism. The government forcing you to have a medical procedure seems like the definition.
I’m not arguing for or against it. I’m simply asking us to call it what it is. Let’s not act like liberal democracy is still with us if we’re at “do this or starve”.
Because those unvaccinated people are so inconsiderate of other's health. They shouldn't have any rights at all because of their irrational fear of fully tested and government approved medicine.
