Fingers crossed for new Macbook Pro.
Also waiting for the new 16" MBP. Don't hold your breath though.
I need to upgrade my macbook to 32GB and am waiting for the M cpu's - really hope they hurry up and don't ask crazy money for them
I'm running out of working keys on my 2017 MBP.
I think rumors are this will be mostly about phones and the new Macs will be end of the year. However I wouldn’t mind if those were wrong - I need a new work laptop and would like to see an option of a 16“ M1X
I'm with you. I saved both of my Trump Bumps and my Biden Bonus for a new M1 MacBook. I don't need a ton of ports, but I do need at least a 16-inch screen.

(Using a 17-inch PowerBook these days is like driving a 1970 Cadillac Coupe-de-Ville. Luxurious, but slow.)

Often the Mac stuff is announced in October, so don't hold your breath.
Not going to happen yet, Macbooks are expected to be announced a few weeks later…
Super excited for 90 minutes of AppleTV ads!

should I expect a new 27" iMac ...i guess not?!
Everyone please buy an iPhone 13 Mini!

I need it to sell well so that someone keeps making a small-ish phone :(

I wish someone made a similarly small Android phone. iOS is a no-go for me because I prefer to own my devices. Also, headphone jacks are nice.
I thought most of the flagship brands of Android phone have no headphone jack now?
Oddly enough, some of the smallest Android phones released in the last couple of years have headphone jacks, e.g.: Galaxy S10e and Pixel 4a.
As ridiculous as it feels, lack of a headphone jack is a flagship feature now.
But they're also ridiculously huge, so I don't consider them anyway. Also Sony did experiment with removing the jack but brought it back and markets it as an advantage.
> Also, headphone jacks are nice.

Also: Touch ID.

I'm not against Face ID additionally, but I like my home button.

Oh yeah, this too. Though for the last 6 years, I've used Android phones with the fingerprint scanner on the back. Face ID doesn't require a conscious action from me (placing a finger on the scanner) to unlock, this just doesn't feel right. Besides, faces change over time so it must have weaker thresholds, and I'm not convinced they're sufficiently unique.
Unfortunately, my iPhone SE 1st gen is still doing really well, and will be supported by iOS 15, and it's hard to justify ~$800 on a new phone when my current one was $300. I'm considering buying a 12 Mini if the price drops after the 13 Mini is out...
I replaced my SE 1st gen with an SE 2nd gen. It's a little larger, but small by iPhone standards.
I am in the same boat. They released the 12 mini 6 months after the new SE, which came after years of not having a smaller phone option. It must have cratered sales for the 12 mini.
I'd help you out, but I expect to use my 12 mini for at least 3 more years, maybe 5.
Looking at you, Sony! You were so great before.
Planning on upgrading a 1st Gen iPhone SE this year but the decision between 12 mini and 13 mini currently lies solely on whether the 13 mini will have Touch ID.
Only if they bump battery life
Agreed. It’s been fine during covid because I have barely left the house. The times I have it has not performed well battery-wise. Will be looking to bump size next round.
I haven't had this experience, looking at my last 10 days in the battery history there was only one time I broke 75% battery usage.

Put it down to usage differences, I have it in my pocket to listen to music and podcasts or take some photos if the need arises, but I'm not using my phone with the screen on all the time. Having a small phone is great for that.

If I knew I were going somewhere that I planned to have my phone out all day, I'd rather bring a battery instead of carrying around a bigger and more expensive phone for the 99% of the time when I don't need it.

The one thing I want from the larger phone sizes is the Pro camera module. But between the price and the size increases I'm happy with the mini.

I don't know if they will stop making them completely, but they did cut production on the 12 mini due to lower demand than expected: https://www.engadget.com/apple-iphone-12-mini-production-rep...
The ‘lower demand than expected’ is just speculation.
What are plausible alternatives? The only one I can think of is prioritizing higher margin units due to supply chain problems.
The most plausible view is that the reduction in manufacturing wasn’t a ‘cut’, but was planned. Initial ramp up has to be very aggressive to make sure all channels have inventory. After that they can ramp down to match expected sales volume.
Is it though? According to the article: "The company will reportedly produce at least 70 percent fewer units than it initially planned". Why else would they make a cut that large?
Did they make that cut? Was it a cut, or was the reduction in volume part of their plan. Typically they want devices in channel globally at launch, which implies a huge ramp up at the beginning. After that they only need to keep up with constant sales volume.

Tim Cook has repeatedly warned people that these kinds of supply chain rumors do not indicate what people assume they do.

Well I will avoid further speculation then! That makes sense and I hope that is the case, the mini seems like a cool device and I hope it's part of their lineup next time I need a new phone.
I just bought a 12 mini and I'm thrilled! It has almost the exact same screen real estate my 7plus did, but fits nicely into my pants pocket.
Remember that Apple is putting photo scanning and reporting into their hardware. They just postponed it because they phone their big event and new phone to sell, then they will do it.
The iPhone 12 mini looked like a great phone, if I had the freedom to install a Linux-based OS on it I'd probably have picked one up.

That was my plan, but I really need the pro mini, so that I don't get worse cameras than I have today.
I heard a rumor that the 13 Mini is already going to be the last Mini. I have no need to upgrade, the 12 Mini is perfect. But I'm going to buy the 13 Mini just so that I have one more year before I have to give up that form factor.
After CSAM stuff, nope.
CSAM is really giving me pause too.

I think if enough of us plebes hold off on upgrades they might get the message.

Apple are smart though. The CSAM scanning update will come after they've made the sales.
They may already have. They've already pushed "pause" on the roll out. We're just waiting to see how long after the initial rush on sales of the new devices before they release the pause. Is the "pause" just a ploy to not hurt sales numbers like the cynical ones of us think? It looks like that to us. Maybe they can lure those folks like you into going ahead and getting one more device.
sad to hear no glucose monitoring with the watch 7. Would be a game changer
Insulin monitoring would be even better.
wow, the picture and floating clock animation looks like there might be a glimpse at apple AR glasses. on the other hand with chip shortage and corona no one really expected apple anymore to talk about it this your or maybe even next year. this will surely be exciting.
If they announce a new ARM Macbook Pro with a new (and actually good) camera, I'd probably buy it.

If it comes with macOS Monterey, I'd probably not enable iCloud Photos on it though. Device-side scanning is unacceptable to me.

I hope Apple breaks another sells record. All the screeching voices will vanish into the void of ignorance.:)
