Ask HN: U.S. Patent Law- what can I do about it?

There has been a lot of talk recently about software patents, most of it negative. I believe that patent law (or at least software patents) as it currently exists doesn't work. Perhaps there should be a more strenuous process getting patents, shorter life of patents, or no patents at all... I don't really know. I don't want to just ignore them, although I'll continue to create regardless of them existing or not. I want to do something to help get them changed.

But really, what can I do about it? Thanks.
