I've done this (in the summer). The ruling I received was to treat the time when the sun is at its lowest point as basically the entire night in a single instant.
Since the evening prayer is always allowed to be done shortly before night, I'm not sure why they say "It is possible that during very long days of the polar summer, evening prayers are not recited." I'm not aware of any rabbinical authority who would rule that way.
Doing the afternoon, evening, and morning prayers one after the other was definitely an experience.
