Mailchimp just got bought for $12B, and employees own no equity (twitter.com)

Employees signed up to own nothing. God love them. Why is this news? Were they duped, or did they all just benevolently sign up to make a few others wealthy? Same goes on with pretty much every PE-owned company as well, not really worth a story.

By all accounts MailChimp employees have been well compensated for the last 2 decades. They are all getting bonuses after this acquisition. Why should the suddenly get equity now? I doubt many employees were willing to trade salary for equity before this exit.
