This is a bookmarking extension that also enables me to search through my bookmarks (and I presume, their contents) while introducing the addition of curated bookmarks and bookmarks from those that I may have interest in following?
It feels like a reasonable path to universal personal search, if that's what the authors are after
Yes, we originally dreamed of building a search engine that's free as in freedom. Personal search engine for bookmarks and aggregation of it seemed a good starting point.
Sorry for the late reply. We were not expecting this post to take off on HN. Got hit by unexpected traffic. The problem has been fixed with an alternative solution.
Thanks.. Right now accuracy is validated on a test dataset that we keep on our side. If you could use the feedback url on website to share some details, that dataset can be augmented further.
I've had this same dream, exciting to see it being worked on, but I think you're missing some essential features on the social side.
The big difference between this and Google search (other than being way smaller) is curation. All links are added intentionally by a person, not crawled by a robot.
So lean into that intention, give more for people to do with their choice to add/visit a link.
Add a landing page/blurb to each link with user-addable tags, links and maybe comments. It'll let people do more with their attention, and be another reason to add a bookmark (to see what other people think/ have linked it to, if it already exists on the site)
I think theres a huge untapped market for bookmark+, the place people go AFTER finding something online.
Edit: Decentralization is great, but basically no one cares about it when it comes to actually using a site. Either it's a good experience or not, the only thing decentralization adds is a vague promise you won't get screwed by the devs. Theres always going to be an imbalance of power between creators and users though, even if it's just in time and knowledge.
Glad to see that many people share the same feeling that pushed us to do this in the first place - until this point, we were skeptical about whether it existed or not.
We're planning to double down on the features that supports a feedback loop from consumers to creators.
We wanted to build this product in a way to provide more value to the content creators, while benefiting content consumers. We hope with this, creators will get direct exposure to their follower's taste and expectations.
Thanks for your time, much valuable information. Have a nice day!
