Couldn't you accomplish the same by appending your search query with -amazon.com?

yes, that doesn't remove ads but it's a good start

however, as mentioned in the reply to a comment above i will be expanding it with a ui such that users can blacklist whatever sites they do not want to see linked

Why not an extension that removes [insert-domain] from search results, such as Personal Blocklist. Why just one domain?
