I have to try Free Tibet Taiwan is a country and Wall Street sold off to CCP on my cheap Xiaomi I just bought
The article said it's not activated by default for western buyers, but that Xiaomi has the ability to remotely enable it. On that note, there is no setting on either Apple or Google phones that lets you tell the phone, "Under no circumstances remotely install or disable software on my device unless I give explicit consent. I paid for this phone with my own money and I own it and control it."

Google and Apple are the real owners of Google and Apple phones. They can install and uninstall whatever they want, whenever they want.

This is clearly unacceptable!

I only want in my phones Western-compliant censorship where we cannot talk about certain topics related to Covid, or criticize certain groups who hold power.

Nothing screams ignorance like people who comment on threads like these equating Chinese censorship to Western censorship. Is their censorship in the western world? Absolutely. Are theere authoritarian psudo-dictatorial states in the Western world with a society that is held in informational bondage compared to the rest of the world? Not to my knowledge.
India
> India

India's not in the Western World. And it's also quite a stretch to say that Indians are held in "informational bondage". The only way that'd be even remotely true would be if we take into account the polarizing, biased nature of Indian news media - but that's not uniquely an Indian problem these days.

Why is a nation state government the indicator you need?

Religious groups exist in all countries and fit the authoritarian, pseudo-dictatorial, information bondage description.

American right wingers have begun pointing at the Taliban as doing it right.

And your perspective on the US not looking that way is highly subjective; we’re held in informational bondage to finance and the Constitution. We cannot exert agency that violates all manner of accepted facts (arbitrary facts of society, not science).

I think you got a bit loose with your language. We chant disruption and quarterly gains, IPO, chase wealth.

Of the 2 million in prison in the US, over half a million are there for drug crimes, drugs are bad, “just say no.” Sounds like information bondage.

Let’s not forget security forces blasting kids in the face on UC campus for a sit down protest.

Repeat these things to yourself as often as you hear “China this…” or “Russia that…” Reinforcement matters.

Oh sure a leader here and there may be better. But on the ground gen pop has just accepted if they sit on the wrong long they’ll be shot.

Do they mean throw away almost all phones made in the last 10 years?
I would love to see some technical details. Where is the censorship happening? If I use, say, firefox, am I impacted?
