That's exactly my fear with these types of regulations. They severely limit innovation. I'd much prefer the manufacturers themselves to decide on the standard, force them to if you have to (likewise banning non compliant devices), otherwise you get something like what happened in Korea in the early 00s, when they regulated active x for online payments. That didn't age well and took a long time to change.
Could they mandate this for all handheld electronic devices while they're at it? My electric razor, cordless (small bit) screwdriver and toothbrush don't need their own charger.
