I’m looking forward to progress in Jetpack compose - a cross-platform UI builder for Kotlin. Idk if it beats Java AWT/Swing/JavaFX yet though.
From my experience, it already does. It's also made Android development an order of magnitude more pleasant.
Are there any apps in Compose with binaries downloadable to see how polished it is? Be nice to compare with Electron things.
Why does Google have both this and Flutter?
> Top row shows a Perlin noise texture

Side-tangent story:

I am continually impressed that an algorithm invented in the early 80s is still the go-to way of creating noise all over the place, from Pixar productions to Skia Shaders to Unity3D and beyond. I had the pleasure to meet the inventor Ken a couple years ago at SIGGRAPH in LA, where after 30 years he still shows up just to see what's new and hang out with us "normal" people. I was at a table with him chatting away for over an hour, having no clue who he was, even though his badge clearly said Ken Perlin. I didn't make the connection until my friend said "hey - you know that's the guy who made Perlin noise, right?", remembering that I had a several months prior proclaimed my joy at having discovered Perlin Noise and using it extensively in my project. I'm generally not impressed by celebrities of any sort, but in this case, I had to stop him mid-conversation to thank him many times over (including offering him a big hug) since I've had the pleasure of using various incantations of Perlin Noise over the years. Truly an awesome and humble guy.
