Why are there only three major printer manufacturers

Are printers really that complex that only three companies (HP, Canon, Epson) can produce them? Why are other major companies (for example DELL, Microsoft, Lenovo, IBM, etc.) completely absent in the printer space? It's not like companies don't use printers.
