That's a very partisan definition of, "economic suicide."
Have there been sovereign debt defaults that haven't been economically devastating?
Republicans themselves have characterized it as a potential disaster and then blamed Democrats for bringing us closer to it.

Also, why would this be a threat at all if it weren't a disastrous outcome?

Given the 30 year track record, is stunning to think the GOP would suddenly change their opinions on debt & have anything to cry about. That seems like the definition of partisanship, to me: protesting someone doing exactly what you have been doing.

As for this being economic suicide, I don't know. But I feel like there's been enough malarkey & I'd like to avoid more senseless chaos if we can.
