Google Maps App is broken since weeks on some devices and not getting fixed (play.google.com)

There are hundreds of 1 start reviews especially for Huawei devices, that the App completely crashes, as soon as you hit the "start route" button. I have the same problem and wonder if anybody else has it or if somebody even got a fix for this.
