I stopped consuming news a long time back. What really affects my day to day life are ultra local news (new schemes by government, crime near my place, changes to services (such as hike in transport/utilities, new startups near my locality etc.). In countries like Singapore, because the news papers/media fail to bring these important issues which affect people's lives directly, they have the community centers (CC) and each building having a CC board, which dispatch such important news.
