Parts of the article seem to imply that the phenomenon is "in people's heads".

I was not able to find anything mentioning the frequency, which seems odd, and would support the theory that either not as many people are suffering from it as the article may seem to imply, or it is not a sound wave, because that should be really easily measurable.

Either way, it sounds like an interesting phenomenon that I thought may be interesting to HN readers, and maybe someone has already looked into it more and has better information on it.
