It's not just bad - it's sick and sickening.
A deeply-immersive space (VR) could be great for deeply-immersive thought and feeling. I'm excited about the up and coming open-source options.

Don't know if all conceivable versions of "metaverse" are bad, but am pretty sure that any version based on private/corporate ownership of the infrastructure will be nightmarish.
Isn't Facebook going to rename itself to meta or something very similar?
"Metaverse" is a bad name for a thing that seems to be meant to be a Virtual Reality platform.

According to Wikipedia, "The prefix meta- is used to mean about (its own category). For example, metadata are data about data"

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meta

"Meta" does NOT mean "Virtual"

Until enough people decide that it does.

It sorta does. If a VR platform could create any virtual imagined world, then run them concurrently, it would be a space of spaces, or a world of worlds, a universe of universes, or a poor rendition of one.
I'm starting to think the metaverse is the "place" Mark Zuckerberg wants to escape to.

Either that or it's where he's originally from.

I think we all want the Metaverse, we just don't want it controlled by anyone.
We don't want it controlled, but I think we do want it governed, not by a single entity maybe, but at least a set of rules or fundamental laws (as in laws of nature, not man). Otherwise it will fall apart as quick as it can be created.
What I fear is that Facebook will just rename itself to Metaverse, and then use its money and legal team to sue anyone who also uses that generic name.
Lol. Literally did that a day ago. Now Facebook is called Meta.
The metaverse is boring.
